Position:         Youth Facilitator for Afterschool program

Job Status:      15 hrs/week until March 31, 2018 with possibility of renewal

Salary Range:  pay range begins at $16.00/hr

Closing date:   January 05, 2018

Start Date:      January 15th, 2018

 

The Afterschool Youth Facilitator (AYF) is a member of the Youth in Elmwood Arts and Recreational Program (YEAR) providing youth in Elmwood with academic support, capacity building activities, connecting to community resources and social services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as a positive role model at all times, and demonstrate support for pursuing a quality education
  • Facilitate Girls Leadership program with a focus on girls empowerment model.
  • Facilitate interactive and educational activities (e,i: literacy, recreational, arts) that enhance capacity building
  • Engage and support youth complete homework assignments
  • Participate in team meeting and staff meeting.
  • Assist with program administration including set up and clean up (daily/evening log books, statistics, participant contact information as well as organizing evaluation forms to files).
  • Be familiar with program guidelines and help enforce them as needed and appropriate
  • Maintain organized system of program implementation in a fast paced environment

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience working diverse cultural and demographic needs
  • Must be able to approach youth to initiate conversation and relationship
  • Experience facilitating an afterschool program for youth aged 12-21 years old.
  • Must be patient and compassionate, sensitive to youth’s previous experiences in educational settings
  • Experience working with at-risk youth and/or understanding of inner-city issues
  • Must be able to tutor in at least two high school sciences
  • Must be able to maintain open lines of communication with other staff
  • Experience working in an educational setting an asset, but not required
  • Must complete a satisfactory criminal record check and child abuse registry check

 

Work Hours: The hours of work will be between 1:00-8:00pm Monday to Friday; however some weekends may be required as per the needs of the program.
